Welcome to the home of the Independent Powerlifting Association. We are a relatively new organization based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and are linked to the Global Powerlifting Committee. The core of our membership currently trains out of Pro Bodies Health & Fitness in the South West area of the city. Our mission is to provide opportunities for our members to participate at a level of high performance appropriate to their abilities, from the provincial level to World Class. Membership with our club provides not just the opportunity to compete in the sport of powerlifting, but also guaranteed training partners, with proven methods to make you a stronger athlete no matter what your chosen sport. We are dedicated to promoting growth and development of Powerlifting as a sport, as well as helping athletes of all ages with performance programs to make them stronger, faster and more competitive.
Chance's are if you have found
our site you are already involved in the sport,
but for those that are new to Powerlifing a brief explanation is in order.
A Powerlifting meet will be composed of 3 attempts to make your best lift in
each of the 3 lifts, beginning with the Squat, followed by
the Bench Press and finally the Deadlift. Also a separate class will
normally be run for those who only wish to Bench Press. Each lifter will
get 3 lifts in the squat, followed by 3 in both the Bench, and Deadlift. Failure to
make a first attempt in either lift will disqualify the lifter. Therefore
he/she would normally begin with a weight that is known to be easily handled.
At the end of the day each lifters best completed attempt, of each lift, will be
added together for a
total weight, and decide a winner for each class.
Classes will be broken down by age
for both men & women into:
| open | (all) |
| master | (40 upward separated by 5 year intervals) |
| sub master | (30 - 39) |
